UNITY THROUGH SPORTS

Annual Sports Meet:

2011

Annual Sports meet is being religiously conducted and expanded to all clusters this year bringing Unity among our members and a feeling of being together.

The Chennai Cluster conducted the 20th Annual Sports Meet on 27th February 2011. Shri B.S.R. Prasad, General Manager, NW II presided over the function and Shri K.S. Mohan, Dy. General Manager, SBI Commercial Branch, Coimbatore and Shri V. Devarajan, International Boxer and Arjuna Awardee were the guest of honour.

The Trichy cluster conducted the 2nd Annual Sports Meet which was well attended. Com. Karthikeyan, Regional Manager, Reg-I, Trichy was the Chief Guest.

Madurai Cluster has conducted the 1st Annual Sports Meet. The participation was excellent including that of lady comrades. Com. Ramanujam, AGM and Com.Kannan Raja, AGM, Com. S. Mohan, AGM, Com. A.S. Alagirisamy, AGM also participated. The Coimbatore Cluster sports meet concluded on 21st May 2011 at our SBOA Matric School. Shri Sandeep Sait, DGM, NW II and Shri K.S. Mohan, DGM Commercial attended the function. More than 100 of our comrades participated enthusiastically with their family members.

This Sports Meet is a resounding success due to the great interest shown by our Sportsmen Officers and others. Excellent team spirit and sportsmanship were maintained throughout by all the participants. I thank all the participants for their support and co-operation extended for conducting the events smoothly. Some of our sportsmen officers have a number of achievements to their credit and it is my bounden duty to mention few of them here:

Com. Mohan of Overseas Branch and Pradeep John of RACPC Chennai represented our Country in Beach Volleyball in the Asian Beach Volleyball Championship.

Com. Pradeep John has been awarded the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch, for the Common Wealth Games.

Com. Ranjith of LCPC, International Footballer, has been nominated as the National Selector of Indian Football Team by the Indian Football Federation.

Com. Amjad of LCPC, International Footballer, has qualified himself as Asian Football Confederation ‘B’ Grade Coach and also nominated as a National Selector for the Indian Junior Team under 17 years by the Football Federation of India.

2010

The annual Sports Meet at Chennai was inaugurated by our former Regional Secretary, Trichy Module Com. P. Subramanian, and Shri.V.B. Chandrasekar, an eminent Cricketer, who represented our country against New Zealand was the Guest of Honour. There was a huge turn out of players and enthusiasts on the inaugural day. More than 300 members were present on the inaugural day.

The Sports Meet was conducted in two phases namely game events, track and field events for officers and family members. 11 game events such as Vollyball, Ball Badminton, Cricket, Table Tennis, Carom, Tennicoit, Shuttle Badminton, Football, Hand Ball, Tennis and Basketball for officers. six game events such as Table Tennis, Carom, Tennicoit, Ball Badminton, Shuttle Badminton and Throw Ball were conducted for lady officers and officers spouse. Four game events such as Table Tennis, Carom, Tennicoit and Shuttle Badminton were conducted for children. Apart from individual awards and trophies for the teams, all the participants of the game events were honoured with a T-Shirt as a participant’s special gift. All the ladies and children were honoured with special gifts. The Valedictory function was held on 26th January 2010, in a colourful manner. The participation of ladies was very encouraging. The highlight was Tug of War for women in which 64 ladies participated in four teams including Mrs.Meera Murti, D.G.M. (Vigilance).

The Guest of Honour was Mrs.Ilavalagi, World Carom Champion. She was accompanied by her husband Shri.Sakthivel, National Carom Champion. We presented a cheque for Rs.10,000/- to Mrs.Ilavalagi, who has come up from a humble background. Mrs.Meera Murti, D.G.M. (Vigilance) was the Chief Guest and Mr.Viswanathan, D.G.M. (SME) and Mr.Muralidharan, DGM (Operations) were Special Guests.

2009

The Annual Sports Meet for our members was Concluded at our SBIOA Junior College on 26th January 2009. The Chief General Manager, Shri.J.Chandrasekaran was the Chief Guest of the function and he declared open the Fitness Centre at our SBIOA Junior College. He also released the Special Sports Bulletin and in his address appreciated the efforts of the association in sports and stated that he really loved to participate in the function. Olympian, Padmasri Shri.Baskaran, Former Captain, Indian Hockey team and an Olympic Gold Medalist was the Guest of honour.

Sports Meet at Trichy

Ever since the formation of the Module the first sports meet was inaugurated on 20th December 2009. Com. N. Amarnath Olympian inaugurated the meet. Volley Ball, Tennicoit, Shuttle Cock, Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess games were conducted. All the members in and around Trichy very enthusiastically participated in the sports and the participation of Lady Members was appreciable. On 10th January 2010 more than 200 members actively participated in the sports meet with their children. More events were conducted on 10th and prizes were distributed to all the winners of the events. A Volley ball team was selected and took part in Chennai Sports on 26th January 2010 and played an exhibition match. The team also played Hand ball match, and participated in the relay and won a price.
