SBIOA Educational Trust

The State Bank of India Officers’ Association, a trade union of professional and managerial staff with 20 years of standing, placed before its 11th General Body Meeting at Bangalore on 30th July 1978, a proposal to start an Educational Trust to manage and run schools to help the members and the society in providing quality education. This proposal was accepted by the members as the management of State Bank of India was not prepared to consider its demand submitted in 1966 that:

“The Bank should arrange to run one or two residential schools in each linguistic state for the children of employees including supervising officials with facilities of boarding and lodging on a subsidized basis”

The decision, however, was immediately put into action by SBI Officers’ Association (Madras Circle) and a Trust was formed under Societies Act and registered with Income Tax Department as a Charitable Trust. The major aim of the Trust is to manage schools which will provide full, liberal and comprehensive education to develop the character and personality of the child. Two schools were started at Madras and Madurai in 1979 to achieve the motto of the Trust (Viz) “Educate and Illuminate”. The children were given an opportunity for research, reflection and application. The primary object of the schools is to produce young men and women with a keen sense of discipline and responsibility, initiative, self reliance and loyalty. It is an all round drawing out of the best in the child’s body, mind and spirit.
