As another pioneering effort in India our Association was the first to establish an Institute for Trade Union Education and Research in 1979. The Association has acquired its own premises of 2650 Sq.Ft in the heart of Chennai. We were the forerunners in starting such an Institute and conducting focused training programmes for our members in disciplinary proceedings, preventive vigilance, training programme for field officers, Accountants, Cash Officer, leadership training etc. In the last 3 years we have conducted 16 Cadre Camps for our members benefiting 1450 members. The Institute conducts training programme for newly promoted JMGs, coaching classes for POs and JMGs for their confirmation tests, Mock interviews for promotion to TO, Scale III to IV and Scale IV to V were organized with CGM, GMs & DGMs in the panel. The Institute also conducted a seminar on “Impact of Global Rating Agencies on Indian Bank’s, the proceedings of which is brought out as a book and given to all members. The Institute has started coaching classes for Bank recruitment. The Department of Hindi Correspondence Education of the State Bank of India Officers’ Association Institute , Chennai was started in the year 1994 and it conducts correspondence Diploma course in Conversational Hindi, English, Tamil and Post Graduate Diploma in Translation, post Graduate Diploma Course in Journalism, post graduate Diploma in Personnel Administration & Human Resources Management in Hindi. This Institute was established in the year 1979. For trade union studies. Mr. Dharma rajan was the Programme Director. Many programmes like, ‘cadre camp’, journalism, DPC etc., were conducted. In 1993, at the initiative of Shri M. Dharmarajan and Shri M. Balakrishnan, Shri S. Saravanamuthu, Shri K. E. Kuppuswamy, the Languages wing was started. Earlier, we organized classes for office bearers . Later we conducted for SBI staff and now these courses are open to all.
